WHAT ARE SUPPORT GROUPS SUPPORTING ?

For

Those who are already facilitators of support groups (a refresher)

And

Those who want to be facilitators of support groups (some principles)

And

Those who want to know how to establish a support group

(guidelines to consider)

Every person in a support group

starts from a point of personal loss.

While there will be differences

in the nature and functioning

of support groups,

loss is a common theme

that affects them all.

It may be through the loss

of a job, ill health, the disruption of a relationship, the death of a loved one or the loss of the planned future as partners care for their sick loved ones.

 But the shared experience

as the result of the loss is

Grief

The issue, and the focus of this workshop, then becomes

  • ·   Are the common losses and grief being acknowledged in the group?

  • ·   How can this be done in a sensitive and positive way?

  • ·   How to ensure the group is supporting healthy adjustment and  grieving,  rather than supporting people to stay in their grief?

Come and spend half a day to explore the answers to these questions with
